LA County Bystander Intervention to Stop Anti-Asian/American and Xenophobic Harassment
Disrespect, hate crimes, and hate incidents of all forms are on the rise across the U.S.― and the world. In this virtual workshop hosted on Zoom, and co-sponsored by Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Hollaback!, and the Department of Human Resources, participants will learn how to intervene effectively as a bystander without ever compromising safety.
This interactive training will explore intervention methodologies like, Hollaback’s 5D’s of bystander intervention: Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, and Direct― all with an emphasis on prioritizing individual safety. The training will also cover the types of disrespect folks are facing right now― from microaggressions to violence― using a tool called the “spectrum of disrespect.” Participants will learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities. Time will be provided to practice these methods so that participants feel confident intervening the next time hate incidents occur online or in person.
Duration: 1 hour & 30 minutes
